Arena Lichess Tournament FAQ
How are the scores calculated?
From the outset, wins are worth 2 points, tables 1 point and losses 0 points.
If you win two games in a row, you will start a double scoring streak, represented by a flame icon. From that moment on and as long as you keep winning, each game will be worth double; that is, the victories 4 points and the tables 2 points. A loss will still be worth zero points.
For example:
Three wins in a row are worth 8 points: 2 + 2 + (2 × 2)
Two wins and a draw are worth 6 points: 2 + 2 + (1 × 2)
Two wins, one loss and a draw are worth 5 points: 2 + 2 + 0 + 1
How is the winner decided?
The player (or players) with the most points at the end of the tournament will win.
How are pairings made?
At the beginning of the tournament, players are paired based on their score. As soon as you finish a game, you return to the tournament lobby, and you will be paired with a player with a similar score to yours. This minimizes waiting time, although you may not be playing against all the other players in the tournament.
Play fast and go back to the lobby to play more games and earn more points.
When it ends?
The tournament has a countdown clock. When it reaches zero, the tournament rankings are frozen and the winner is proclaimed. The games that are in play must be finished, although they do not count towards the result of the tournament.
Other important rules
There is a countdown to the first move. If you don't make the first move within the time, you lose the game.
If the game ends in a draw during the first 10 moves, no points will be awarded to either player.
